What to see in Ystad

Ystad is best known for the books about inspector Kurt Wallander by author Henning Mankell, many of which have now been made into films. Ystad is one of the most charming cities in southern Sweden and it is certainly worth spending an afternoon or even longer here. Stroll through the narrow cobblestone streets past the city’s old colored houses and be amazed by the friendly atmosphere here. Visit the Ystad Monastery with the St. Petri Church and the centrally located St. Maria Church. There are many nice little shops and on the central market square you will find plenty of cozy cafes and places for a fika.

The Ystad art museum is also worth a visit. If you are ready to completely relax after your long trip to Sweden or if it is a rainy day and you could use some warmth, visit the Saltsjöbad, a spa hotel by the sea.

I share many of my own experiences and all the things I wish I had known when I first traveled to Sweden in 2015.
