About Sweden Travel info – your Sweden expert

Welcome to Sweden Travel Info, the Dutch website for travel and holidays in Sweden. My name is Antonette Spaan and I am your Sweden specialist.

Between 2015 and 2022 I traveled to Sweden several times every year. I now know the country from both sides. Initially as a traveler who discovered the country anew every season for years and crossed it from north to south. Since 2023 also as a local who not only knows the beautiful sides, but also knows what it really feels like to live here, which forests you have to drive through and where you should and should not be. I have now lived permanently in Swedish Lapland for three years.

This makes Sweden Travel Info different from all other websites about traveling in Sweden. Everything you read here comes from years of personal experience, based on the months of travel I made and living in Sweden.

I grew up in Duiven, a village in Gelderland close to Arnhem. After completing my Tourism Management course in 1999, I started traveling. I have now visited more than 50 countries and developed a passion for northern destinations.

After working in an office for 15 years, I made a decision that many people think but few dare: I made traveling and writing my full-time job. Not because it was easy, but because I knew that I could help people better from my own experience than from an office chair.

Sweden quickly attracted me like a magnet. After each trip I drove back to the Netherlands over the Öresund Bridge with a knot in my stomach. In the summer of 2022, I decided to drive through Sweden in my old Volvo for three months, without a fixed destination, looking for exactly what the country had to offer me. Somewhere during that trip the decision was made: this will be more than a holiday destination.

In the summer of 2023, I bought, on my own, a beautiful house in Dorotea, a small village in Västerbottens län, one of the northernmost provinces of Sweden. And I never left again.

In addition to Sweden Travel Info, I am the owner of We12travel, NewZealandInfo and the Adventurous Women podcast. I am also co-owner of Experience Hemavan, an outdoor company that guides adventure excursions and trips in the mountains of the Vindelfjällen Nature Reserve in Hemavan.

I spend my free time outside as much as possible. Together with my boyfriend, who lives more than three hours further north, I go out for walks, making fires, fishing or skiing.

I put all that experience, both as a traveler and as a local, into my website. All articles on Sweden Travel Info are based on my own experiences, I took all the photos myself and tested all the tips myself. What you read here is correct.

Because I like to help people beyond an article, I wrote it Travel guide to Sweden at Uitgeverij Elmar and the e-book Sweden for beginners. I am currently working on a new book about Swedish Lapland, which is expected to be published in the spring of 2026.
